What Plastering Costs in Sydney — and How to Get a Real Price

How much does a plasterer cost? Not a question anyone honest answers over the phone. What we can do is tell you exactly what moves the price, so when quotes come in you can see which one has been thought about — then give you ours in writing.

Three Quotes Can Differ by Double

How to Read a Plastering Quote

Three quotes for the same job can differ by a factor of two, and the cheapest is not automatically the wrong one. What tells you which is which:

Does it name the board? "Plasterboard" is not a specification. Sheet type and thickness should be written down, especially where a fire or acoustic rating applies.

Does it say what finish level? A Level 3 finish is fine behind a bookshelf. Under gloss paint, or on a wall a window throws light along, you want Level 5 — and it costs more because it takes another coat and another sand.

Does it mention set-out and packing? A quote that has considered the framing was written by someone who looked at the framing.

Does it include waste removal? Offcuts and stripped board are bulky. If it is not in the quote it becomes your problem or a variation.

Is it a fixed price or an estimate? Both are legitimate. Knowing which one you are holding is not optional.

If a quote is materially cheaper than the others, it is usually one of these that is missing. Ask which — a good plasterer will tell you straight, because the answer is often "I have assumed the frame is straight", and that is a fair assumption to check.

  • Board type and thickness named
  • Finish level stated — Level 3, 4 or 5
  • Set-out and framing packing allowed for
  • Waste removal included
  • Fixed price or estimate, clearly marked

Quoting Questions

Are quotes free?

Yes. Written quotes are free, whether that is a residential repair priced from photos or a commercial scope quoted from drawings.

How quickly will I hear back?

We aim to come back to enquiries within a business day. If it is urgent — a sagging ceiling or water damage that is getting worse — call rather than email and say so.

Do you need to visit before quoting?

Not always. Most residential repairs can be priced accurately from a few photos and the room dimensions. Larger jobs, ornate ceiling work and commercial scopes are better with a site visit or a set of drawings.

What areas do you cover?

Residential work centres on the St George area around Bexley, plus the Inner West, Eastern Suburbs and Sutherland Shire. Commercial and fitout work we take on Sydney-wide. See our Areas We Serve page, or just ask.

Can you quote commercial work from plans?

Yes. Send the architectural drawings, the partition and ceiling schedules and the programme dates, and we will quote against the specification.

What information helps you quote fastest?

The suburb, what needs doing, rough dimensions, and photos. For ceilings, a photo taken from a distance plus a close-up of the damage tells us most of what we need.

Call and you will get a plasterer, not a call centre. Photos or drawings by email work just as well.
